Vvedensky Island Convent is an Orthodox nunnery, though it used to be a monastery. It belongs to Alexander eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is located on an island in the middle of Vyatskoye Lake (Vvedenskoe Lake). The monastery was founded in the late XVII century by the monks Sergius and Timothy of Antonia Poustinia, who moved to the island in the middle of Vyatskoye Lake and set up a wooden chapel and awooden monastic cell. In 1876—1878 the winter church of St. Nicholas was rebuilt and enlarged. In 1891—1894 the old Vvedensk Church was replaced by a new five-headed one, made of red brick. The iconostasis got silvered and gilded, and the cathedral’s walls were decorated with the icons in Greek style. This church had to go through lots of troubles in the XX century: destruction, renovation and re-consecration. There was abell tower added to the territory of the church which didn’t remain till today, a few brick cells along the perimeter of the island, the body and the brick rectory same fence. In 1918, the St. Vvedensky Convent was closed and its property was nationalized. In 1991, the monastery was returned to the Orthodox Church.
